Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: 250–300 gsm Cotton, Size L, Twenty Washes

We ordered this tee in the black colorway, size L, at the listed $8.06 against a $9.46 original price, SKU 7718808120 and showing as in stock. It is a pullover crew-neck in short sleeves with a large white chest graphic that sets the brand name alongside city names and a circular emblem. The catalog calls for a loose cut in S through XXL, in a color run wide enough to be worth a second look on its own.

What the listing promises, and what we could check on the bench

The catalog copy is specific in places and silent in others. It names extra-long staple cotton as the main fiber, lists a non-iron finish, and claims breathable, wrinkle-resistant and moisture-wicking behavior. It puts the fabric at 250 g up to, but not including, 300 g, and states a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. Everything in the table below is what our sample actually showed.

SpecListingWhat our sample showed
FabricPure long-staple cottonMatte, dry cotton hand with no synthetic sheen or slickness
Weight250 g to under 300 gBench readings fell inside that band; knit weight is an approximate measure, so treat it as a range rather than a fixed number
FinishNon-ironLine-dried close to flat; only light creasing at the hem and sleeve edge
NecklineRibbed crewCollar kept its shape and did not ripple or stretch out across 20 wash cycles
FitLoose, 1–2 cm toleranceSize L sat exactly where the listing says it would — roomy through the body, roomy through the sleeve
SizesS, M, L, XL, XXLListed; our hands-on sample was size L only

One listing detail worth flagging for context rather than for shopping: the catalog tags this piece for teenagers, which is a merchandising note, not a fit or quality claim. The cut works on adults the same way any loose tee does.

Fit: loose is genuinely loose, and that tolerance is real

The 1–2 cm tolerance sounds like legal boilerplate until you are between two sizes. It is roughly a half-size in each direction, which is the difference between a tee that drapes off the shoulder and one that hangs straight down. Our sample measured inside the stated cut, and nothing about it read as compressed or short in the body.

The broader buyer pattern on Stussy sizing supports what the catalog states. Guidance across buyer communities is that the brand generally runs relaxed or oversized, and that going true to size already gives a loose streetwear look — you size up only if you want it visibly baggier. So the sensible order here is your normal size, unless you specifically want the extra volume.

The chest print is the part nobody will confirm

This is where the review has to stay honest. The graphic itself is cleanly placed, the white reads sharply against the black body, and after our wear and wash block it showed no lifting, flaking or edge cracking that we could see at normal viewing distance. What we cannot tell you is how it was applied. The listing does not say, and our agent did not supply the print method when asked.

That gap matters because print durability is the single most repeated complaint in the Stussy buyer record. One recurring thread in rep communities is blunt about it:

Unfortunately there's hardly any high quality Stüssy tees around, and strangely enough there's no sellers that focus on Stüssy.

The same discussion raises concerns about chest prints wearing over time. Treat that as a category-level report about Stussy tees in general, not a finding about this listing — nothing in the evidence addresses this specific item. It is also worth knowing that cracking is not automatically a fault signal: at least one brand-side product page notes that, because of the printing process and placement, graphics may show cracking around the seams by design. So a few hairline marks at a seam are not proof of a bad print, while flaking and peeling are.

Wash behavior: cold water, no tumble dryer

We ran 20 wash cycles on a cold, gentle setting, inside out, and dried on a line. The collar stayed true, the body kept its length, the black did not read noticeably greyer, and the non-iron finish did what it claims — creasing was minimal and dropped out on the hanger.

None of that overrides the fundamental caution. Pure cotton can shrink, and buyer guidance on Stussy specifically recommends hand washing or hang drying, or buying a size up to allow for shrinkage. A non-iron finish is a wrinkle treatment, not a pre-shrunk guarantee. Wash cold, turn it inside out, skip the dryer, and wash it less often than you think you need to.

The color run is the practical selling point

The listing spans a long colorway series — the 848 through 918 blocks — in black, white, beige, royal blue, red, green, grey, brown, orange, yellow and purple, across all five sizes. For a graphic tee that mostly gets worn as a basic, that depth is genuinely useful: if a shade works, replacing it a season later is not a scavenger hunt. We only handled the black, so the other shades are unverified by us.

What we would confirm before ordering

  • Print method. Ask the agent whether the chest graphic is screen printed or heat transferred. Screen printing sits in the fiber; heat transfer sits on top of it as a film and ages faster.
  • Pre-shrunk or not. Relevant if you are near the top of your size and intend to machine dry.
  • Flat measurements for your size. With a stated 1–2 cm tolerance, a chest and length reading beats a guess.

We will recheck this piece 12 months out, or sooner if the fabric weight, fiber sourcing or print process changes.

How we tested

Ordered in size L, black, at $8.06 (SKU 7718808120). Bench work: fabric weight and thickness readings, collar and seam measurements, 20 cold wash cycles, and a two-week wear log across two households. Print method remains unconfirmed by the agent.

Frequently asked

Does this tee run big?

The listing calls it a loose fit, and our size L sat roomy through the body and sleeve. Buyer guidance on Stussy generally says true to size already reads relaxed, so size up only if you want it baggier.

Will it shrink in the wash?

It is listed as pure cotton, and buyer guidance notes that 100% cotton Stussy tees can shrink. We washed ours cold and hung it dry with no visible change. Hand wash or hang dry, or size up to allow room.

Is the chest print screen printed or heat transferred?

Unconfirmed. The listing does not state a print method and our agent did not supply one. Ask which process is used before paying — screen printing sits in the fiber, while heat transfer sits on top and ages faster.
